Description

Emerson CILA, an eight-bed home, is located in Monticello, the county seat of Piatt County. Monticello is a small and intimate community which lacks the hectic and impersonal aspects of larger cities. Monticello offers a variety of outside recreational activities, including Allerton Park which is a 1500 acre wooded park with a 1900 Georgian home. We always enjoy our many strolls around Allerton Park. Also, Lodge Park provides us opportunities for picnics, fishing and nature walks. Monticello offers unique shopping and dining experiences with many small hometown restaurants and unique shops from which to choose. The Hillside CILA home, another eight-bed home operated by the Alan G. Ryle Companies, is located just a few blocks away. We are able to join with our friends there to share activities, including holiday parties and vacations. We enjoy going bowling at the local bowling alley, out to eat, and to the railroad museum, which offers daily train rides on historic railroad cars. Monticello is located just off of interstate 72, with quick access to Decatur or Champaign. Other favorite activities include going to the movies or out to shop in the malls of Champaign or Decatur. We also attend Camp New Hope and participate in Special Olympics. Jazz concerts and symphonies sponsored by either Millikin University in Decatur, or by the University of Illinois in Champaign allow us many cultural activities. On the weekends if you find us at home you will find us doing craft activities, cookouts, going for walks, watching movies, or playing cards, and board games. We have several day training options from which to choose, including attending Piatt County Day Training Center in Monticello, Developmental Services Center in Champaign, or working in the community through a supported employment program.
