Alpha Community House

Description

Alpha Community House in Charleston was established in 1986 as the first ICF-DD group home in the AGR Companies. Some people who in 1986 moved into this home still reside with us even today. This home serves 15 ambulatory individuals, both male and female. People who reside at Alpha Community House are, on average, younger to middle aged and are quite active. We especially enjoy going out on walks, playing basketball in the back yard, visiting friends in the community or playing board games at home. Our community has much to offer. One individual living at Alpha House attends dance classes, and another attends local karate classes. We have the advantage of being located near Eastern Illinois University, which provides the people who live in our home recreational, educational and professional services. Most of the people who live in our home attend many community functions throughout the year, including EIU’s Celebration, the Broomcorn Festival, and Special Olympics’ Family Fun Festival. Alpha Community House is within just a few miles of a state park, Lake Charleston and historic Abraham Lincoln sites. We always enjoy visits to those places. Charleston has the charm of a small town with some of the attractions of a larger city.
